Castaways Found in Vegas!

Rhonda Pipkin

Got milk? Took your calcium? Keeping those hips limber? Hope so, because you've just got an invitation to the strip! Well, a little off the strip, “Castaways” Casino in Las Vegas is the place that caters to seniors. Think about it: “Fun-day Monday.” This is the day of the week when those seniors fifty plus get “four times points” in the casino, but there's even more. This casino has 106 bowling lanes with state of the art Qubica scoring systems. Let your imagination soar! Grab your perfect bowling shoes and sashay (twist and wiggle) your way up to the choicest of lanes. Leave the fancy footwork up to the pro's lest you find yourself wrapped around your ball rolling down the gutter.

Las Vegas , Nevada is like no other city in the U.S. Starting from zero to over 1,500,000 in a century, it is truly the “city that never sleeps.” There are no quaint neighborhoods to drive through and admire. Although the population explodes each month requiring the need for a new school, you won't see that side of Las Vegas . The city thrives on tourists and the needs of the guests are put above the locals. Over thirty-seven million visitors choose Las Vegas each year and that is what keeps the city alive. Besides gaming, Las Vegas ' McCarran International Airport was installed as the U.S. Weather Service station established in 1948. For the month of November, you can appreciate daytime temperatures in the 90's and night temperatures between 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Despite desert conditions and native landscape, Las Vegas boost of the world's largest hotels. Each of these is anything but desert landscaped. These mega-hotels are fantasy fairylands. A place where there are no clocks, no windows, and time stands still as long as you are winning. The “cha-ching” of a pay-off slot machine and the excitement of the general crowd keeps your adrenaline running high and the need for an extra energy bar or a can of Boost.

“Castaways” is just one of the mega-casinos. Five and one-half miles away from the strip, this casino hosts an RV park on site. “Castaways” is tropical themed, and a spin-off of the wild and wacky group of castaways from Gilligan's Island .

If bowling isn't your forte', “Castaways” offers golf for seniors. Each year the Senior Legend Tour takes place in November, as well as the Ladies Classic. Tournaments usually feature a three night stay with two rounds of golf or four nights with three rounds along with cocktail parties and awards banquets. For those non-competitive types not inclined to enter a tournament, there are individual golfing packages through-out the year. Those using the RV park have the same casino privileges as the people staying in the hotel. Call ahead for reservations at 1-800-826-2800 or go online at www.castawayslv.com . “Castaways” casino is located at 2960 Fremont Street on the Boulder strip.

Another invigorating casino with RV Park on site is “Circus Circus.” It is the only one on the strip. “Circus Circus” RV Park has accommodations for over 300 spaces. This is a “must call ahead” and reserve your space due to the fluctuation in rates, however, I've been told you can expect to pay between $19 - $40 per/night depending on the time of year. For reservations call 1-800-444-2472.

If the sound of “Circus Circus” reminds you of the rug rats you've left behind, don't fear! Las Vegas and “Circus Circus” was probably built for the older kid in each of us. With daily circus acts, award winning restaurants, Jacuzzis, and a swimming pool you might just learn a few tricks yourself. Remember the calcium, milk, and energy bars.

Whether you are a “castaway found or a clown on the town,” hopefully you'll head on down the road to the next RV park with a little of Las Vegas in your pocket. No souvenirs of dirt, rocks, or cactus, but maybe a little greenback and some silver. For those of you who hit it big, I mean REALLY BIG, remember to evenly distribute the weight in your RV! Oh, and by the way, if you won that much, remember me! Happy Traveling.
